Metro, train, bus, bike, on foot: what the guide says about Pierrefonds-Roxboro, and a clear verdict: with a single car.
Living in Pierrefonds-Roxboro without a car. Verdict: With a single car. The REM serves Sunnybrooke and Roxboro-Pierrefonds (Deux-Montagnes branch, opened in the fall of 2025), with downtown without a transfer; buses on Pierrefonds, Saint-Jean, Saint-Charles and Gouin reach the REM and the Fairview terminus (Pointe-Claire). The Cap-Saint-Jacques nature park (beach, farm, trails, sugar shack), the Bois-de-Liesse nature park and the Anse-à-l'Orme nature park are the three large spaces; Parc Grier, Parc Roxboro and the boulevard Gouin path complete the offer, with the cultural centre and the Sportplexe Pierrefonds. Pro: A suburban house with land on the island, nature parks, the river, and the REM to downtown. Con: Lived by car: no walkable shopping street, boulevards and shopping centres. For families who want a suburban house with a lot, nature parks, a river and, since 2025, a direct REM downtown; for anglophones and newcomers looking for a bilingual neighbourhood.
Living in Pierrefonds-Roxboro without a car: what our neighbourhood guide says about the metro, the train, the bus, the bike lanes and what is done on foot, then a clear verdict, deduced from a rule we write out in full. No commute time is invented: the sentences are the guide's, and the figures are those published by the APCIQ.
The guide names the bus, or a train that neighbourhood life is not enough to replace: a household lives here with a single car, not without one.
"Without a car, yes" when the guide names a metro, a REM or a train serving the neighbourhood, without the guide saying it is lived by car. "With a single car" when the guide names only the bus, or a train that neighbourhood life is not enough to replace. "A car is a must" when no metro, REM or train serves the neighbourhood on foot and the guide says it is lived by car. The rule is the same for all 53 neighbourhoods; it does not replace your real commute on a Tuesday morning.
For families who want a suburban house with a lot, nature parks, a river and, since 2025, a direct REM downtown; for anglophones and newcomers looking for a bilingual neighbourhood. Less so for those who want urban life, a shopping street on foot or a condo in the heart of the action: Pierrefonds is lived by car and by the water.
With a single car. The guide names the bus, or a train that neighbourhood life is not enough to replace: a household lives here with a single car, not without one.
Highway 40 is to the south, Highway 13 to the east; boulevard Saint-Jean and boulevard Saint-Charles cross the West Island north to south. The car remains the norm for errands, the REM for work.
The real commute to work on a Tuesday morning, at rush hour, and the walking distance to the grocery store, the school and the daycare from the shortlisted street: two streets in the same neighbourhood are not equal. Lived by car: no walkable shopping street, boulevards and shopping centres.
