Renting out your own principal residence short-term is allowed everywhere in Rouyn-Noranda; buying a unit to rent it on Airbnb year-round (tourist residence) is possible only in specific zones. To buy, count on $370,000 for a house at the 2026 median price (Centris). Rules checked on October 19, 2026.

The zoning by-law limits tourist residences to certain zones and caps the number per building, but specifies that these two rules do not apply to a tourist residence within a principal residence. No municipal restriction specific to renting one's principal residence was found.
A unit that is not your principal residence, rented by the night or the week all year, is a "tourist residence". The law does not protect it: the city decides through its zoning where it is allowed.
Tourist residences are authorized only in zones 1000 to 1999 (central hub, central core of Rouyn-Noranda), 5000 to 5999 (rural living environment) and 7000 to 7499 (waterfront environment), in the zones that permit housing. Maximum 1 per building of 7 dwellings or fewer, and 25% of the dwellings beyond 7 dwellings. Prohibited in a detached accessory dwelling unit. According to the press, the rule does not apply to those who were already doing short-term rentals before November 2023.
