Zoning by-law 1101 includes “principal residence establishments for tourist rental purposes” among the complementary uses authorized for residential use (amendment 1101-119 of June 14, 2024). Conditions: comply with the Tourist Accommodation Act and Regulation, no bedroom converted into a dwelling (no additional kitchen equipment), no food service on site.
A unit that is not your principal residence, rented by the night or the week all year, is a "tourist residence". The law does not protect it: the city decides through its zoning where it is allowed.
