If a site still promises Chauffez vert or the $40,000 loan, it is out of date. Here are the exact closing dates, what each program gave and what replaces it in 2026.
Four grants owners still look for have closed: Chauffez vert, Quebec's program for converting central oil or propane systems, ended March 31, 2026 (work and application had to be done before); the Canada Greener Homes Loan, up to $40,000 interest-free over ten years, has not accepted applications since October 1, 2025; the Canada Greener Homes Grant is over, the post-retrofit evaluation having to be done by September 30, 2025 at the latest; and the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, up to $10,000 for households under income thresholds, closed registration July 31, 2026. Rénoclimat had already withdrawn heat pumps on May 1, 2024. What remains: Rénoclimat for the envelope, LogisVert for the heat pump and central heating, RénoPlex in Montreal, the home adaptation program and RénoRégion. Files submitted before each deadline continue to be processed.

Closing dates concern new applications. An owner whose Greener Homes Loan was approved before October 1, 2025 can finish the work and receive the payments under their agreement; an oil-conversion file submitted before July 31, 2026 is processed; a Chauffez vert application filed before March 31, 2026 with completed work is honoured. Keep the written confirmations: they also serve at the sale, when the buyer asks for the history of the work.
Without Chauffez vert or the federal program, converting an oil furnace to a central heat pump is financed with LogisVert (up to $4,320 for 36,000 BTU/h cold climate, or $22,000 with a thermal storage unit) and the owner's budget. Tank removal and any decontamination are no longer subsidized. At the sale, an oil tank over ten years old or buried remains a point the buyer's insurer and inspector flag: converting before selling avoids a financing condition that falls through.
