Living in La Prairie: the 2026 neighbourhood guide

Neighbourhood guide · La Prairie

What it is like to live in La Prairie day to day: neighbourhoods, access, parks, schools and prices, written by a team that sells there all year, in English.

La Prairie has two faces: old La Prairie, one of the South Shore's oldest village cores, with narrow streets and stone and brick houses; and Symbiocité, a recent eco-district built around parks and wetlands. In between, family neighbourhoods from the 1970s to 2000s and the riverfront. In Q2 2026, the median single-family home in the Candiac and La Prairie sector sold for $820,000 in 39 days (APCIQ).

The character of La Prairie

La Prairie has two faces: old La Prairie, one of the South Shore's oldest village cores, with narrow streets and stone and brick houses; and Symbiocité, a recent eco-district built around parks and wetlands. In between, family neighbourhoods from the 1970s to 2000s and the riverfront.

The neighbourhoods, and what sets them apart

Old La Prairie sells on the uniqueness of each house; Symbiocité and the recent sectors compare by the square foot and attract buyers who want new without going far; neighbourhoods between Route 132 and Highway 30 form the bulk of the market. The APCIQ sector groups La Prairie and Candiac.

Getting around

Route 132 and Highways 15 and 30 frame the city; exo buses connect to Brossard's REM and the Longueuil terminal; the nearest exo train station is in Candiac.

Parks, leisure and shopping

The riverfront and its bike path, the parks and basins of Symbiocité, neighbourhood parks; the RécréoParc in Sainte-Catherine, with its beach, is next door.

Schools and services

French network: Centre de services scolaire des Grandes-Seigneuries; English: Riverside. Local health services on site; referral hospital in Châteauguay (Anna-Laberge) or Longueuil depending on the sector.
