Since March 25, 2023, rentals of 31 days or less are permitted everywhere in the territory for principal residences. However, after CITQ registration, the City requires a municipal compliance notice and then a certificate of authorization (principal residence) issued by the City Clerk's office. According to the press (2023), no limit on days, guests, bedrooms or parking.
A unit that is not your principal residence, rented by the night or the week all year, is a "tourist residence". The law does not protect it: the city decides through its zoning where it is allowed.
Short-term rental of a secondary residence is permitted only in the 17 zones shown on the municipal “Zones C61” map, mostly commercial and hotel-oriented. According to the local press (Tempo): downtown Knowlton, along Route 243 in Foster and Route 104 in West Brome. Elsewhere, prohibited.
