A unit that is not your principal residence, rented by the night or the week all year, is a "tourist residence". The law does not protect it: the city decides through its zoning where it is allowed.

Tourist residence is regulated as a complementary use to housing (art. 6.4.2): a dwelling may be rented as a tourist residence for a maximum of 90 days per year, while keeping its residential purpose, under the same conditions of detached building (4 bedrooms at most), lot (1,500 m2, frontage 30 m) and distance (50 m), a single rental unit per building, not in a building with another dwelling except the owner's principal residence, a designated respondent and liability insurance of at least $2 million per rental. No particular zone is named in the article.
