Renovation · Heat pump · 2026 grant
One program, one rule: the capacity at -8°C. Here is what LogisVert gives for a wall unit, a central unit and geothermal, what closed, and how not to be sold a nominal capacity.
In 2026, a single grant finances a heat pump in Quebec: Hydro-Québec's LogisVert, at $50 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at -8°C for an ENERGY STAR certified model and $120 for a cold-climate model, or $600 to $1,440 for a 12,000 BTU/h wall unit at -8°C and $1,800 to $4,320 for a 36,000 BTU/h central unit; geothermal gets $750 per 1,000 BTU/h on a new installation, and thermal storage paired with a central heat pump $22,000. Rénoclimat has not subsidized heat pumps since May 1, 2024, Chauffez vert (oil conversion) ended March 31, 2026 and the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program (up to $10,000 under income thresholds) closed registration July 31, 2026. Modest-income households can get a wall-mounted heat pump at no cost from Hydro-Québec. Apply within nine months of installation by an RBQ-licensed contractor.
| Heat pump | Capacity at -8°C (example) | ENERGY STAR ($50) | Cold climate ($120) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wall-mounted, one head (bungalow, condo) | 12,000 BTU/h | $600 | $1,440 |
| Wall-mounted, two heads or large | 18,000 BTU/h | $900 | $2,160 |
| Central (house with ducts) | 36,000 BTU/h | $1,800 | $4,320 |
| Central, large house | 48,000 BTU/h | $2,400 | $5,760 |
| New geothermal | 48,000 BTU/h | $36,000 ($750 per 1,000 BTU/h) | |
| Central thermal storage with central heat pump | $22,000 | ||
Capacities are examples: the eligible capacity is the one at -8°C listed by Hydro-Québec for the exact model, always below nominal capacity. In a multi-unit building in an energy-insecure area, the cold-climate wall unit gets $220 per 1,000 BTU/h. Combining several LogisVert measures adds 5%.
Rénoclimat has paid nothing for air-source heat pumps or geothermal since May 1, 2024. Chauffez vert, which helped replace a central oil or propane system, ended March 31, 2026. The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program (up to $10,000 for households under income thresholds, for example $78,775 after tax for two people in Quebec) closed registration July 31, 2026; files submitted before are processed. The Canada Greener Homes Loan has been closed since October 1, 2025. There is no provincial or federal tax credit for a heat pump.
Be a Hydro-Québec customer at the address; choose a model from the eligible heat pump list; have it installed by a contractor holding the appropriate RBQ licence; apply online within nine months of installation with the itemized invoice; aid is set by the installation date. The no-cost heat pump stream targets modest-income households with a cold-climate wall unit supplied and installed by a designated installer.
A recent central heat pump is the equipment most reliably found in the sale price on the South Shore: air conditioning included, lower Hydro bill, listing argument. A wall unit is justified by comfort and savings more than value. In both cases keep the invoice and the LogisVert confirmation: the buyer and their inspector ask for them. See renovating before selling and the LogisVert details.
Yes, one: Hydro-Québec's LogisVert, $50 or $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of capacity at -8°C. Rénoclimat, Chauffez vert and the federal oil program no longer apply.
$1,800 for 36,000 BTU/h at -8°C in standard ENERGY STAR, $4,320 in cold climate; up to $22,000 if paired with a central thermal storage unit.
Modest-income households have access to Hydro-Québec's no-cost heat pump stream (cold-climate wall unit), under the program's income thresholds.
Nine months after the installation date, online, with the invoice and the installer's RBQ licence.
These programs can be combined on separate work. Our guide to renovation grants in 2026 puts them in one table; to know whether renovating before selling pays, see renovating before selling.
