Living in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG): the 2026 neighbourhood guide

Living in Montreal · Notre-Dame-de-Grâce · 2026 neighbourhood guide

The most anglophone neighbourhood in the city outside Westmount, the one for families who want tree-lined streets and the metro: what it costs in 2026 and who it suits.

Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is the west end's big bilingual residential neighbourhood: streets of brick houses and duplexes from the 1920s to 1940s, Monkland Village and its cafés, NDG Park, Concordia's Loyola campus, the MUHC and two orange-line stations (Villa-Maria, Vendôme). In Q2 2026 houses sold for $1,247,000 (-5 %) in 49 days and condos for $611,250 (-2 %) in 45 days; the market is balanced between $290,000 and $710,000 in condos and favours buyers above $860,000. It is one of the first neighbourhoods where English-speaking families and newcomers from Ontario settle.

The character of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce

NDG is a neighbourhood of houses: rows of red-brick semi-detached and row houses, handsome duplexes, maple-lined streets, and an English-and-French neighbourhood life around avenue Monkland (Monkland Village), rue Sherbrooke West and avenue Somerled. Concordia's Loyola campus, NDG Park, the McGill University Health Centre (Glen site) and Vendôme station are its landmarks. It is a neighbourhood of families, health professionals and academics, quieter than the Plateau and cheaper than Westmount, its neighbour.

The neighbourhoods, and what sets them apart

The NDG of avenue Monkland and the streets between Sherbrooke and Côte-Saint-Antoine is the most sought-after and expensive, with the finest semi-detached houses. The Loyola and Somerled area, to the west, is more family-oriented and slightly more accessible. To the south (Saint-Raymond, near Highway 20 and the Glen), you find more affordable condos and plexes in a changing sector. Montreal West, a separate enclaved town, completes the APCIQ sector with its detached houses and its train station.

Getting around

The orange line serves NDG at Villa-Maria and Vendôme; Vendôme is also an exo train station (Vaudreuil-Hudson and Candiac lines) connected to the MUHC. Buses on Sherbrooke, Monkland, Somerled and Décarie complete the network. The Décarie Expressway (15) and Highway 20 border the neighbourhood, which matters for those working in the west or on the South Shore.

Parks, leisure and shops

Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Park is the neighbourhood's green heart, with its fields and skating rink; Loyola, Trenholme and Girouard parks add to it; Mount Royal and Westmount Park are neighbours. Monkland Village lines up cafés, restaurants and boutiques; Sherbrooke West and Somerled complete it with neighbourhood shops.

Schools, health and services

The neighbourhood falls under the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal and the English Montreal School Board, with several English and private high schools nearby; Concordia's Loyola campus and Villa Maria College are in the neighbourhood. The MUHC (Glen site) and the Montreal Children's Hospital are at its edge. Library, pools and arenas on site.

The real estate market in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in 2026

NDG is one of the rare central neighbourhoods where the single-family home is a real market (94 active listings in Q2): $1,247,000 median, down 5 % year over year and 1 % over twelve months, at 49 days on market. Condos ($611,250, -2 %, 45 days) are balanced between $290,000 and $710,000, and the buyer leads above $860,000 (10.3 months of inventory): it is the island neighbourhood where the high end negotiates most in 2026.

Who Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is for, and who it is not for

For families who want a brick house, a quiet street, the metro, English and French schools and a bilingual neighbourhood: NDG is the first address for newcomers from Ontario and MUHC professionals. Less so for those seeking the lowest entry price or nightlife: NDG goes to bed early, and its house costs $1.25 million.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a condo cost in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce?

The sector's median condo was $611,250 in Q2 2026 (-2 % year over year, 23 % in five years), sold in 45 days according to the APCIQ. The actual price depends on the building, the floor and the condition.

And a house or a plex?

The median single-family home was $1,247,000 in Q2 2026 (-5 % year over year), in 49 days. Plexes (2 to 5 units) make up a large share of the housing stock; their price is documented on closed sales on the street, not on a borough average.

Is NDG an English-speaking neighbourhood?

It is bilingual, with one of the island's strongest anglophone presences after Westmount and the West Island: schools in both systems, shops in both languages, and the MUHC and Concordia as employers. That is why families arriving from Ontario settle there first.
